ShutterBug Kids Digital Photography Workshop

Photography workshop in Sydney for young Shutterbug kids 7-12 years old.

This photography workshop for kids has been designed to not only teach children the basics of digital photography and camera handling but to also train the child’s creative eye - focussing on the world around them viewed through the lens/LCD screen.

These photography workshop classes are fun, interactive and creative as well as educational. As a photographer and graphic designer, Sarah (the instructor) encourages the students to explore their own creativity and self-expression using their camera: composition and design, colour, texture, viewpoint, framing, family and faces, nature and flowers, pets, buildings, abstract and favourite objects.

Workshop suitable for: This fun and hands-on digital photography kids workshop has been designed for ages 7-12 year olds with absolutely no camera knowledge, and for those who use / own a digital camera or smartphone. Child is required to bring their own or parents / friend's digital camera. For ages 7-9 it is preferable they use/ bring a compact camera or smartphone rather than a DSLR camera. For 10, 11 and 12 year olds DSLR or mirrorless cameras are also ok. The child then has continuity for practising after the workshop using the same camera.

Workshop duration: 10am-12.30pm. N.B There are 2 different age group date workshops - see below for ages & dates. (Currently, there are no group workshop sessions during school holidays. For tailored dates and private 2hr workshops, either during term time or school holidays please email via contact form.

Workshop content includes: * camera handling, * understanding the camera buttons,
* what makes a good photo, * themed practical photo shoot, * composition and colour, * close-up shots,
* capturing subjects from various viewpoints, * training the eye to see a good shot through the lens/LCD,

"Thanks so much Sarah, Aimee really enjoyed the workshop and is so proud of her photos. She is quite amazed at what she managed to achieve and her pictures, both in quality and structure, have gone in leaps and bounds from doing the workshop with you. She took more photos over the weekend and is taking time to think before shooting - it's delightful to watch her."
Lynette Lagesse and Aimee (age 7 - almost 8!)

"Thanks for providing Austin and Ashley with a thoroughly enjoyable and creative experience. They loved it and didn't stop talking about it during the drive home."
Camille Wall (Ashley age 7 and Austin age 9)

"Aimee and Edward really had a great time on your photography workshop - it certainly beats computer games."

"My 9 year old son thoroughly enjoyed his 2 day course with 5 other children completed today. Great to see his passion for photography encouraged and he has definitely learned how to use his camera in a more productive way. Thanks Sarah - perhaps will do one of your workshops myself!"
Cheryl Smith (Stirling age 9)

"The boys had a wonderful time at the workshop - they learnt so much in the two sessions and had lots of fun, and enjoyed learning how to take photos in black and white and of interesting things." Peter K (Joshua age 10 & Tom age 9)

"Thanks for the workshop yesterday, both Noah and I thoroughly enjoyed it; it was fun and informative. We both feel we came away knowing how to operate the camera off auto mode. Noah spent this morning wandering around the back-yard taking photos and playing with different modes."
